  1. "Matchmaking" is not so much in vogue now as in years gone by. In Shrove all the matches were made in olden times. The match was usually made on a fair day. The parents of both parties between whom the marriage was to be contracted met at some appointed place which was usually a public house. There they discussed matters and fixed everything for the marriage.
    When all arrangements were made the priest was told of the matter and he arranged the wedding date.
