- The Farm Animals
The animals the farmers keep in this district are cows, calves, horses, pigs and sheep. The names of the cows are Bawny, Curlie, Blackie, Short Horns, Breac and Spottie. When driving the cows they say How! How! How! and when calling the cows they say Sup! Sup! Sup! When calling the calves they say Suck! Suck! Suck! and when driving them they repeat the same words.
The cowhouses are covered with iron and the walls are built of stone and mortar. The cows are tied by the neck. The tying are made with one small pole standing firmly and another pole hanging loosely. When they want to tie the cow they put her in between the two poles and pull the loose pole as near as they can to the other one. Then they hasp it.
Each farmer in this locality keeps about two horses. During the Winter monts the horses are kept inside in a stable and during the Summer they are out in the fields. A manger is fixed for each horse and they are tied with a halter.
