- WITCHCRAFTOne time there lived in this neighbourhood a man and his wife and they had only one cow. According to all accounts they lived in the townland of Killyreash.
This cow was in the habit of giving a plentiful supply of good rich milk, But suddenly this changed and she began to give little or no milk. The owner could not understand this so he resolved to watch the cow and find out if any one was interfering with her. In those times some people believed in witchcraft, and believed that a person could take the milk from a cow or the butter of the churn by means of witchcraft.
One summer morning this man went out at break of day to see his cow in the field. He had a grey-hound with him. and when he reached the place where the cow was a hare got up beside her.
The greyhound followed the hare and the man followed both. The hare ran on to a house in the neighbour-hood and went through a broken pane in the window. The hound, just as the hare was going through the window caught the hare by the hip and took a piece out of its hip but still the hare got in safe.
