- Emyvale is a little village situated about half way between the towns of Aughnacloy and Monaghan. It is about three miles from this school. Its old Irish name is Scairbh na gCaorach. One time a beggar man was passing through Emyvale. He began at one end of it and went from door to door asking for a little handful of meal at each house. When he arrived at the other end of the village he had not received a single handful of meal in the whole place. Then he stood in the centre of the street, and composed the following lines on Emyvale."Emyvale, oh, Emyvale
If you were as free from sin as you are from male (meal)
You would be the happy Emyvale.According to another version he said,Then fare ye well poor Emyvale,
Where the stirabout's made from Indy male (Indian meal)- Bailitheoir
