  1. Sir Robert Gore Booth was the local landlord. The Gore-Booths were very good landlords, and would not evict anyone. The tenants were not punished as the landlords were kind to them. The landlords used to exercise power over their tenants to see that they had their rent paid and other things under their control. The rent used to be collected in money on the 1st day of November if the people had it. If they had not the money to pay their rent they would fight against the Bailiffs, the landlord's agents. rather than to be put out of their little homes. We are paying a 5s 8d as a Tithe money still. We have forty statute acres and the tithe is the only rent we are paying. My mother pays
