- Buying + selling was carried out in olden times but shops were not as common than as now. People went to the nearest town for their meagre purchases, for all this time the people were practically self-supporting - living on the produce of their own farms - potatoes, eggs, butter, milk + meal.
Goods were often sold after Mass, but whiskey + punch were the principal things sold in this way. These were sold in "Sheebans" at Cornasoo Cross (Cross roads between Threemilehouse _ Narblins Money was mostly given in exchange for goods. Labour was also given "Grannies" of flax were sold at the hucksters shops and the money given was spent in the "shebans"
Pedlars + dealers in rags were very common long ago.
Sovereigns, crowns + farthings were used in buying + selling and were more common then than now. The people often spoke of "a £1 of boot" and this meand a "1 gain. When a person got goods without paying(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
