  1. The old people say that if clouds like goat's hairs are seen in the sky it will rain the next day and also if there is a ring round the moon. A small rainbow in the sky in the evening it will be a nice calm dry night and if a rainbow is seen in the morning it is a sign of a stormy day. It was a saying "a rainbow in the morning is a sailor's warning."
The South West wind brings most storm to our district. Cats wash their faces before a storm, and old folk say that if a cat sits with her back to the fire it is a sign of rain. The dog eats grass before a storm of wind & rain.
The spider comes out of its web before morning if there is going to be rain the next day. The swallows nearly touch the grass before rain. The hills look very near if there is going to be rain. If the dew comes in the morning & goes out in the evening it is a sign of rain. The sky is very red before a storm. Smoke goes up straight from a chimney if there is good weather coming
