   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   The following poem was written by John Mc. Ivor Drumbrain Newbliss in memory of the old people from round the neigbourhood who are now dead. They are all referred to by their nicknames.

   When Thomas Greenan writes again
   About the people of the Cross
   Tell him to record some familiar names
   Whose demise was a serious loss.

   Must "Stookans" in oblivion rest
   The "Rap" and "Ragweed" too
   Paddy Whelan, Pat Smyth, John Glenn & Tom
   Big Owen & his colleen Ruadh?

   Hughie Reilly and Sally
   "Soot" and "Allie"
   Have long since crossed the bourne
   White James & John, the Master too,
   Bartley Boylan & Maggie Curran.

   And Ned McCormick with legs astride
   Would play his notes so true
   And the rattle of brogues to "the Heathery Braes"
   In the far - famed Number Two.
   (No. 2 was a house where they used to dance. There were 2 houses in one street).
