  1. The following poem was made by Paddy Whelan late coroner - North Monaghan who lived in Dooskey. It was written about the sale of a pet duck which belonged to Pat Fitzpatrick Carn who was called the Carn Bard.
Oh Lizzie dear! what evil luck
Has brought grief to Carn Lane
The stately walk of Fitz's duck
Shall be seen no more again.
How often through the window glass
    The bard admired poor wheet
As she rocked along those verdant paths
'twixt the snowdrops & the street.
The eggs she laid if now in store
    Would purchase an estate
    Her progeny a dozen score
    Old neighbors do relate.
Her breed is found from all around
    From Calliagh to Drumbrain
On every pond & hill & lake
    Near historic Carn Lane.
