  1. The National volunteers were named by the writer of this poem "fleas" (in derision). It was written by John Mc. Ivor - Drumbrain - Newbliss.
What is it that has scared the Rope Moore's goat?
And raised him from his den?
    Vibrating oe'r the hills
    And wakened up Tom Glenn.
    Are German raiders roaming o'er
    Our verdant hills & braes?
No! it is the Dooskey "fleas."
These hell - hounds came from Lowertown
    (between Greenan's Cross & Smithboro').
    On past Loughran's Kraal
    Vast numbers swarmed Tyredigan
    And threatened Cornawall.
Get Bartley's ladder if you can
    Put it to Croarkin's wall
And from the topmost rung you'll view
    These fleas oe'r Tatnagall.
Tras-scríofa ag duine dár meitheal tras-scríbhneoirí deonacha.
