  1. The farm animals are the horse, cow, calves, goat, pig, pony, sheep and bull. The domestic animals are the dog and cat.
Some cows are called "Bawny," "Polly," "Moyley," "Blackie" and "Spotty." When calling the cows we say "tch! tch!" and when driving them we say "How! How!" When calling calves we say "Suckie. Suckie" adn when calling pigs we say "Hurish! Hursih!" The calves will come if we rattle the handle of a bucket.
The cow house is called the byre. It is kept white-washed. There is a manger in the byre where hay and straw are put for the cows. There are stakes driven into the side of the manger to which the cows are tied by means of iron chains. These are brought in a hard ware shop. The chains are fastered around the cows' necks.
Some people are very superstitious about cattle. They strew May flowers at the door of the byre in May to keep the fairies
