- Some of the old houses in far off days were fixed up at the foot of a speed hill, and others in the midst of rocks in lonely places.
The houses were built of "Blue Clay" mixed with water, which formed part of the walls from the portion of earth shaped by the excavation. For when the dimensions of the houses were cut out of the hill to the extent of 6 to 10 feet the walls in blue clay mixture were continued to the level for roofing.
Then the roof was laid on, and consisted of "wattles" or bog oak, gathered(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
