  1. Most people buy eggs for hatching. They get a dozen eggs and one extra. That is thirteen eggs. They put iron under the nest. If a person bought the eggs had to cross water his way home there was salt shaken on the eggs.

  2. There were other foot coverings called Ankle Jacks which had three holes on each side. These were sold on the streets. The farmers and country men wore these Ankle Jacks. They were good and strong and fairly cheap.
