- Potato gathering
Potatoes are grown our farm. They are very plentiful. My father's grows about two acres of potatoes. When he is setting them he cuts each one in two parts and leaves an eye in each part.
He manures the ground well and then he spreads it and drops the "seed" and closes the drills with a drill plough. When the digging time comes he digs them with a digger and sometimes ploughs themout. When they are gathered he puts the big ones in a pit & takes the small ones home and puts them in a store. When there is a good price for them he sells them or part of them.
The small ones are useful for pigs, hens, and cattle when they are boiled. My father has a lot of weapons such as harrows, ploughs, grubbers, shovels, grapes, cultivators, and drags. There is a lot of different potatoes, they are Pinks, Arren Banners, Skerries, Arren Victors. Thomas Watters.
