On the 23rd of January in the year of ninety two
My way I took to Coolartra to have a pleasant view
To view the grand horse races that were run upon that ground
Got up by Captain Walker of honour and renown.

    (2)
The day it was a favour it was so bright and fair
The cheers for Captain Walker they sure did rent the air
The farmers race was the first chase about 12 in the day
Twas easily won by "fair Haired Girl" owned by Willie Mc Enea

    (3)
The Fair Haired Girl won twice before on the Clontibret field,
Well rode by Ned McAughey that could handle whip and steel
Said Mc Aughey to his bonnie mare "Well surely beat them far
And bring the prize and honour to the land of sweet Lemgar"

    (4)
The next was run at three o clock and won by "The Great Brown"
Belonging to Mr Rafferty that lived in Monaghan town
The pony race was a nice chase for six of them run there,
Won by "Jumping Jane" from Carrickaslane belonging to Bob Adair.

    (5)
The donkey race was a slow chase but yet they managed round
Young Arthur Brennan won the prize I believe it was one pound.
The foot race it did end the sport it was won by Patrick Hughes
Twas he came in the first of ten he never yet did lose.
