  1. Upon a bleak December night, poor Donnelly went to rest,
    His loving wife and family by the heavens they were blest
    The joys of Christmas ringing round their humble little cot
    But ere the morning it had come it proved a treacherous spot
    Whilst the people sound were sleeping in quiestest repose
    Down from the hills around it the floods in torrents rose
    The carried all before them - both lives and property,
    Their home was swept and all was plunged right into Eternity
