- FothrachaIt was, and I regret to say is a (custom) practice here to throw freshly burnt lime into pools in the river Abha Ni Criadha [?] so as to stupify the salmon and so render them easily got. Some 60 years ago Liam Óg Mc Cárthaigh Bánárd Ráth Mór [?] was burning lime. Three young me from Liosbáibe [?] one being Patrick Mc Donoghue who spent a good deal of his time working in Limerick went and stole some lime and came on with the intention of depositing some in the good salmon pools. They went in the direction of the fort but between it and some old ruins they heard the galloping of horses Patsy Ml. being accustomed to life in Limerick shouted "whist lads the hunt is coming". Here they lay beside a fence. They heard the saddles creak, the boots noise in the stirrups, the horses snort and breathe, the stones fall the wheelwind [?] and all exactly as the Limerick worker was accustomed to.They were glad enough to be allowed return home and the poisoning was never since undertaken through that path.
