   The parents used to cut and draw the turf, and sow and dig the garden for those teachers who had little cabins in return for the teaching of their children. Then at Christmas they used to give them a few shillings and perhaps a few shillings at other times of the year, but these were rare occaions.

   Somewhere, among the moutains of Cavan, there was a locality, where the people had neither a school nor a teacher. The people had a great love of learning, and they combined and built a school, and beside it, they built a residence for the teacher.
