  1. Long ago, the children had not many games. They have a good many games now. The principal games were "playing gobs", "ideas", "four corners", "duck and granny" and many others.
    Playing gobs was the nicest of the games. The way to play gobs was, to throw them up, and catch as many as you could on the back of your hand. Catch them then, throw them up, and catch the five.
    Put down four on the ground, and keep the fifth in your hand. Throw up one, and catch the five, and do that five times. Throw the five on the ground, pick up one, throw it up. and pick them up two by two.
    Then to scrub to pan, throw up one gob, rub your hand on the ground, and do that five times. Put in the chickens
