The vessels they used before cups came into fashion, were called piggins. They were wooden vessels hewn out of a block of timber and without seam.
About 70 years ago a person wouldn't drink or see tea from Christmas till Christmas because it was too scarce and too dear to buy, ten years later it was used for the breakfast and by degrees it was getting cheaper and more plentiful until it could be had for every meal.
