- Years ago a young man named John Curtin who lived at Rock Chapel County Cork went to a card-party or gamble
as it is called. The prize to be won was a quarter of beef.. and it happened that young Curtain was the winner. He went home that night through the fields, and as he passed through a hedge he saw a man sitting on the ditch who had cow’s legs and he had horns on his head. As young Curtin passed him he held up a pack of cards in his hands and shouted “Come Curtin cut for deal.”
The young man passed on and went home; he fell seriously ill that night and died a few days afterwards.- Bailitheoir
