- The following poem was written by M. O. S Corbett, an old hedge school - master, who taught in this district for a long time.
Corbett asked Dan Clifford, Barna (still living) to go to the top of the steeple with him and there he composed the poem as they sat on the mountain top viewing all the country round. (The Steeple is the name given to the highest peak in the Barna mountain).
Barna mountain is a pleasant station
In all foreign nations I have not seen
A place to equal its sweet plantation
Though in France and Spain I've surely been
For floric beauty in truth 'tis famous
It's crystal streams that so sparkling flow
Down through each cavern by valleys lonesome
'Till they meet Balckwater with which they go

For green clad vales, for sweet shady harbours
For beauty always for all things fine,
Fair Barna mountain they scenes are charming
And there sublime live the muses nine
