  1. There is a treasure supposed to be hidden in Pat Reidy's caves, about four hundred yards from Craol na Spride. It was put there by the Danes when they were on the run from Brian Boru. One night two men made an attempt to carry it. Their names were Cod Leary and Jerry Horan. They made a big hole with spades until they came to a flag. They raised up the flag and got the pot of gold rolled up in a calf's skin. When they put back the flag a little man appeared and followed them. They got such a fright that they left the gold after them. Next morning they returned and the treasure was in the same place and when they were just taking it, the little man appeared again. The hair stood on their heads with the fright. They ran helter skelter through the caves, and one of them fell, but the other man did not wait for him. When he arrived home his mouth was twisted, and the other man was never seen again.
