  1. Marriages used to take place locally in former times during Shrove which is this period of time between Christmas day and Ash Wednesday. Nowadays people get married in July, September and November but to no great extent. Shrove, as a rule, is the time the farmers get married.
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are considered unlucky for people to get married. May, June, August, October and December are the months which are considered unlucky.
Marches are always made in this district and money is always given as a dowry. I never heard of stock or goods been given as a dowry but a cow calf a pony or a sack of meal or flour may be given to the bride as a present.
No person living here remembers marriages taking place in houses but some few heard of such but can give no date.
On the wedding-day, the bridegroom with his friends goes to the brides home
