  1. Fairy Forts
Very meagre accounts of these were furnished by the pupils and descriptions of the fort in each case are lacking. Amongst these we can enumerate the following :-
    1. Michael Scanlon of Clogherclemin Rathanny says: "In the townland of Chutehall on the farm of John Hickey there is a "lios" this is locally called a "fort". It is at the bottom of a field called "Deer Park" where deer were kept by the Chute landlords, some 50 yards from the home of Mrs Keating, People, when passing the road near it, have heard voices and fairy music. There is a fence of earth around it and an entrance at the side. Tom Blennerhassett was ploughing the field for John Hickey and did not interfere with it. It is believed that fairies live within.

  2. 2. Peggy Quinlan of Thursillagh, Rathanny says that there is a fairy fort in Thursillagh and another at Kielduff and still another at Ballincullig. These forts are in view of each other. Each of them is circular in shape and two of them are surrounded by a fence of trees and around the other is a large dyke. To get into these forts, there is a gap or steps. It is said by the old people that it is wrong to interfere with forts. The Danes were supposed to live in these forts. Lights were seen and music heard up to 20 years ago.
