- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)about 35 years of age, and jumped three horses side by side. He was the champion of the country for jumping.
He was a brother of Pat Tangney who was also a good jumper.
Dan Kerby of Bally Egan was a noted jumper. He used to jump his own height which was 6ft 4ins backwards and forwards. He accomplished a wonderful feat in Arthur Blennerhasset's field of Goartatlea. His onlookers were Arthur Hasset, and his son, John Moriarity, David Wililams and others too numerous to name. His opponent was Patrick Tangney, he jumped 6ft in height, over a gate with a scythe in his hand. - Patrick Mannix won the All Ireland walking championship in 1918. He challenged four men who were the pick of the 32 counties for a 20 miles walk. The journey was from McQuinn's Cross of Gortatlea as it was then called and now Henue's Cross to a mile from Headford Junction. He gave each man a start of a hundred yards but he beat them by ten minutes. The time taken to do the journey was(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
