    In Ireland long there were many old schools. There was a hedge-school in Willie Gallivans field at Tonevane.
    At Hurley's in upper Tonevane, there was another hedge-school in O'Sheas in lower Tonevane.
    In those hedge-schools there were no desks like the desks we have in schools at present. The children were seated on a plank of wood with stones beneath to keep them up. In those hedge-schools Irish was spoken.
    The pupils of the hedge-schools always wrote with feathered pens and slates. When the teachers were finished school in the evening they went to the farmers houses and lodged there. The teachers would not stay in the same district any longer than three weeks.
