  1. Once upon a time there was a man who lived in a small little house in our neighbourhood. He was very fond of smoking and therefore he always had a supply of tobacco for the long, cold winters' nights when he would sit by the fire at his ease after his hard day's work. One night, however, he found that he had not enough for the night, and so, though it was now near midnight he determined to cross the long lonesome bog, which was a near way to Killarney, a distance of about seven miles.
