1. The Maugha Bonfire

   About the Maugha bonfire to honour St John,
   As the sun was setting in the western horizon.

   I prepared for the bonfire to go,
   When I saw the light at the top of the road,

   When I arrived they had fire with a big rail of turf,
   A fine rock of bogdeal and a large bush of furze,
   The music began, how my heart leaped with joy,
   For I thought the Redemption of Eirinn was nigh

   From the top of the hill the McElliots came
   And the Moloneys from Carrick advanced to the game
   Likewise the Connells they were grand I ween
   'Twould remind you of the Rising of Cahirciveen.
