    One night a doctor was coming home from a patient who lived a good distance outside the town. As it was rather late and he was in a hurry he took a short cut through a wood. Halfway through he met a woman who was crying bitterly. Of course he asked her if he could be of any assistance and she nodded her head (any) and walked before him. He followed on. A short distance brought them to a comfortable-looking cottage, which she entered and I followed. She led him to a tastily furnished parlour which was two candles. She sat down and I did likewise. I waited for her to speak first, but a clock just struck twelve in a nearby church, and
