- Once there was a castle on the bank of the river near Abbeyfeale. The Lord of the castle had only one duaghter whose name was Féil and she was very fond of swimming. One day when her father and brother went hunting she went for a swim in the river. Soon she saw her father coming near her and she got ashamed. She dived down under the deep waters and was drowned. Ever since the river is called "Abha na Féile."
