- Away back in 1800 when England was at war with France, there was a coast-guard station in a wild remote part of Kerry called Minard a few miles from the village of Aunascal. At that time French and Spanish smugglers haunted the coast of Ireland and it was the coast-guards duty to watch and prevent this smuggling on the Irish coast. Their pay was coming from the English Government so irregularly that they closed their eyes on the smugglers and often made a bit of money by taking a hand in their work.
