  1. There was a packman who had a beautiful pack going from house to house. At last he came to a gentleman's house. The gentleman asked the packman to play cards. So they played until the packman had lost all his money. He then played his pack and the gentleman said he would put the money and the pack against one of his eyes. The packman agreed and lost. Then the gentleman staked all against the other eye and they played and play but again the poor packman lost.
    The gentleman took the two eyes out of his head and then turned him out. The poor man was stumbling around and he did not know what to do or where to go. He came at last to an old ruined house and managed to get in and staggered around
