The kiln is a circular shaped house made of stone. It is about three and a half feet wide and it is plastered with daub to make it air-tight and to prevent it from cracking. At the bottom of the kiln there is an opening about one and a half feet wide.On the bottom of the kiln there is a layer of turf put right up the wall. After that there is put a layer of oak sticks and on top of that there is a light layer of turf. Then there is every second layer of broken-lime-stones and turf until the kiln is full. On top of all these is put turf mould. In the opening in the bottom of the kiln lighted coals are put. They are left so for about half an hour until the turf is well lighted and then the opening is closed by putting a sod and a flag before it to make it burn even. As the turf burns the lime falls down and a person can keep on burning the lime by adding more stones and turf.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
