Market Day
There is a market held at Ballymote every Thursday, and it is always largely attended by both men and women from far and near because Ballot is a very good market town.

Fowl at present are going a good price.
Spring chickens go about five shillings and six-pence per pair.
The market is held on top of the Rock and in the market house.
Both the buyers and sellers are up early and on the market at eight o'clock. Buyers come from Sligo and Longford to Ballymote with lorries to put the fowl into and the buy all the fat fowl to export includ-hens, ducks, chickens and at Christmas geese and turkeys.
