Rathmullen means the fort of the mill. At one time there was a very important corn mill here but there is not a trace of it left.
Knockgrania means the hill of Grainia. When Diarmuid and Grainne was fleeing from Fionn Mac Cumhaill who wanted to marry Grainne, they rested for a while in a sheltered place at the foot of the hill. Ever since the place is known as Cnoc Gráinne.
Emlagh means the border.
Emlaghation means the long avenue.
Carraigeenmore means a high hill, or rock.
Culfadda means the long wood.
