Marriages most frequently take place in Rathmullen during Shrove. Shrove Tuesday is the last day for marriages until Lent is over. There are usually a number of marriages on that day, because people are forbidden to marry in Lent. The people in this district have local beliefs about Shrove. They believe that January is a lucky month to get married, they also believe that Monday and Thursday are lucky days to get married.
There is not much match-making in this district but some time ago there were matches made very frequently, but that custom is dying out now.
When there is any marriage occuring the bride usually gets a fortune of money and the people who can not afford money, give stock as a fortune. On the wedding day when the
