- In the spring of 1917 there was a severe epidemic of influenza in this district. Every person in the family were taken ill together and were unable to attend to each other. Scarcely anyone around the country-side escaped it. Several people died with it and as much as three or four died out of some houses.
In July of 1930 this district was destroyed by floods. It rained for days and nights until rivers and lakes overflowed their banks and destroyed land and several crops. The roads were wet and slippery and the fields were soft and dirty. The waters entered the houses and damaged furniture and many people were forced to leave their homes.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
