aways used by the people as an altar in those severe times. A priest named Father Flannery read Mass there on a few occasions. It was also said that a priest who was fleeing from the enthreats of an English soldier hid there and escaped.
In the centre of the "Low Valley" there is a flat stone which represents an altar. Long ago during the penal times a priest named Father Coen read mass there for thousands of christians. The stone was often known as the "holy rock." The path that was leading into this valley was called the "Priest's path" because it was mostly on this path the priests used to walk when they were going to read mass. Those are the only places in this district that are connected with the penal times.
