  1. In our district, the old people often quote proverbs, in their time of toil or round the fireside. When they see a person doing something it recalls to their mind Some old precept. Some of those are.
    "A lie has no legs"
    If we tell one lie we must tell other lies to support it. These acquire others to bear them. Hence "liars need good memories."
    "Covetousness bursts the bag"
    People who are to greedy usually finish by getting nothing
    "Strike the iron while it is hot"
    By this we learn that an oppurtunity only knocks once at our door, and we should make use of it when we can.
    "Courage is half the battle"
    If we keep our courage we will win if we lose heart we will fail.
    "Man proposes but God disposes."
