    why it dried. May years ago people used to visit holy wells much more frequently than they do nowadays. Old women mostly that used to go to the holy wells in those days and many times during the summer they were to be seen going on a donkey and cart to the holy well and on some occasions they used to walk barefooted to the holy wells. The usual customs when the people would arrive at the well was (were) to wash their hand in the water. Then they would perform stations around the well. When the old people would be going to the holy well sometimes they used to be heard reciting prayers. The well that is mostly visible in this parish nowadays is situated in Achonry. Many people go to this holy well from the 10th of August to the 8th of September every year. It is said that a person who visits the holy well once has to visit it three times if they want to obtain a cure. When people go to the holy wells to pray for an intention for themselves they are obliged to take their shoes off. Mostly
