    There was a great number of drownings in this district. Major Gethins was drowned on Lough Arrow. One evening he was out fishing and having caught no fish he returned for home. A storm arose on the lake and the boat turned over and he was drowned.
    James Keaveney of Whitehill Riverstown was drowned on Lough Arrow. One day he was bathing at Dodd's shore and he swam to a small Island named the Treasure Island, but when he was near the island his feet got tangled in the weeds. When his people found him he was standing in the water.
    There were three of the O' Gara's drowned on this lake. One Sunday they were out in a boat at Ballindoon. When they were going near Littles Island the began fighting for the oars. The boat turned over and the three of them were drowned. The boat was afterwards got at Brickeen.
