- Long ago before creameries started the butter was often taken from the churns.
This was done by a dead hand that used to be taken from a graveyard. When churning the dead hand would be put into the milk and it was possible to gather all the butter from two or three townlands. The priest of the parish had often to bless the churns in order to bring butter back and they say they used to keep a piece of the blessed butter and put it in the next churning and this would save the butter of that churning from being taken away.- Bailitheoir
