Potatoes are grown on our farm. My father has one acre of land under potatoes. He prepares the ground by spreading manure over it. He sows the potatoes in ridges. Every ridge is composed of four sods. Ploughs are used in this district. Long ago wooden ploughs were used, but not one remains now. Spades are bought in shops. Big potatoes are cut into pieces leaving an eye or two in each. The part of the potatoes, which have no eyes in them are called culls or lepawns. When the potatoes are sown they are moulded twice.
