The people of this country practice many customs on certain festivals.
On St Stephens day the boys and men go about the country gathering money. They travel from house to house looking for pennies.
They carry musical instruments with them for playing music when they come to a house.
They are dressed in coloured rags sewn together.
When they come to a house they play music and dance also.
“The wren the wren the king of all birds
St Stephen’s day was caught in the furs
Up with the kettle and down with the ham
Give us some money to bury the wren.”
On that day the people have a goose or a turkey for the dinner.
In the evening the men go to the Public house and drink the money, but the boys divide it between them. They buy sweets and articles.
Then they go home.
