  2. The people used thrash the oats and then dry it before the fire. They had two round stones aout the size of the rim of a wheel-barrow. There was a hole in the middle of each stone and through the hole was a long iron. The people would put the oats between the stones and then twist the iron. These stones were called 'quarns.'
    The would mix the oatmeal with water and then whenit would be firm they would bake it on what they called bread-irons before the fire. These cakes were very hard.
