- About the year 600 A.D. there lived in Ballisodare a great saint called St Fechin and a few other monks. They had an abbey a short distance from where Ballisodare is now situated and beside the abbey was a mine which the monks worked. The mine yields silver and lead. During this time Ireland was been invaded by men known as the Norsemen. These men robbed and plundered the monasteries and schools .
