There are many tricks played in this neighbourhood on Hallow Eve. Fairies are supposed to be seen on forts on that night and people never gather blackberries after Hallow Eve: they are supposed to be left for the fairies. Young people steal cabbage from gardens on that night and tie them in their own houses usually behind the doors.
These cabbages may be there for a day or two until some one comes in. If the person who comes in is nice and likely to be suitable in marriage he will be received kindly, but if he is unsuitable he may be hit with the stolen cabbage.
all families put a ring in a cake for November night. It makes a little sport around the tea table and causes excitement until the ring is found.
Of course the story goes that the person who gets the ring will be the first to be married.
