  1. The country people of this district are very superstitious and believe in omens and signs. Certain days are fixed on which jobs are done. The washing is always performed on Monday for a good beginning to the week. Remedies for illness are applied on Monday and Thursday and ploughinf is usually started on Friday. There are Cross days also in the year, such as Whi Sunday. On this day the country folk say the boys should not play football for fear of getting injured. If any animal or child is born then, it is said they will have some impediment. There is an old legend about the first three days of April these days are called the "Riabhóg" days. A long time ago there was an old cow who became very ill in the montho f March but lived until the end of the month. When the first of April came, the old cow was very proud of herself and said "Thank God March is over." But March heard what she said and borrowed three days from April. Those three days killed the old cow.
