Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Long ago all the old men could make creels. First of all they cut the rods in the wood. Then they got sallies and allowed them season.
    They stuck four rods in the ground and made a square. They put other rods between those. Then they plaited the rods in and out between those ribs. They continued weaving until they had the creel made.
    This was to be hung on a straddle which was also made in the home. A few sheaves of straw was taken from the stack and scutched with a flail, which consisted of two sticks tied together by a thong made from pig skin.
    They plaited the straw until the mat was made. They then procured a block of wood and fashioned it into the required size.
    This was called a cripper. They fixed the mats to this cripper and so the straddle was complete.
